Along the Inca Road
with Joan & Tony - Spring Break 2011
From the Amazonian rainforest to the highlands in the Andes we traveled and experienced Peru in comfort and sometimes in tears. In the jungle the mosquitos moved us in many mysterious ways, mostly painful. Arriving in Cusco (with an elevation over 10,000 feet above sea level) we found ourselves light-headed for the first day; until our lungs were able to handle the thin air.
We tackled the steep trails in Machu Picchu to locations most tourists do not venture to in this historic site. We sampled Cuy, roasted Guinea Pig and partook of Alpaca. In the Amazon we sampled a variety of fish, some only found in this huge river which stretches over 4000 miles from the Atlantic Ocean to its headwaters high in the Peruvian Andes. The headwaters of this river are found less than 100 miles from the Pacific Ocean in a small stream located over 18,000 feet above sea level.
Our exploring is broken into three segments, the Amazon, Lima and Cusco.
