Mauna Kea, at 13,796 feet above sea level, makes for an ideal spot for astronomical devices, i.e. telescopes and sundry items. What's really interesting about Mauna Kea is that it rises 32,000 feet from the ocean bottom which makes its summit above 40 percent of the atmosphere.
