Great-Horned Owl Bubo Virginianis Great-Horned Owls are one of the most majestic and fiercest of the hunting owls. The are diurnal (active during the day and nocturnal (active at night). They will take just about anything as a prey item including skunks. This one, probably a female because of its large size, was so well camouflaged, I walked by it twice until it hooted. Lake Los Carneros, Goleta, Calfornia.
